We all have our moments of truth, whether it has to do with alcohol, tobacco, food, caught in a moment of gossip, or some other behavior we just know deep down is not who we really are or aspire to be.
I loved Stephen King growing up and have been inspired to read more of his work recently. I came across some interviews regarding his early days of drug and alcohol abuse and his insights, having been sober for decades now. It is no surprise that he feels incredibly grateful to be sober and to have a creative and productive life.
The more I grow in my mindfulness practice and the more I learn about the effects of alcohol on our brains, our bodies, our overall health, and our behaviors, the more I choose an alcohol-free lifestyle.
This quote from Stephen King captures perfectly the use of a substance out of time, out of place, a moment stolen from the present, and tucked into a cycle of suffering. I’m happy the author found his way out and inspires many others to do so too.
